Join us for memories that last two lifetimes.  The Guides & Princesses program has long held the traditions of building and fostering strong bonds between parent and child.  Unlike "drop off" programs, all activities include both parent and child.  Together, you will learn the ancient aims of an honorable culture and hear the voice of the Great Spirit in the winds of the earth.  Together, you will journey together to places near and far:  camp deep in the woods, catch a ball game or sleep overnight at a museum.  Wherever you go, you and your children will carry this gift of time together in your hearts forever.

How is our program unique?

Affordable: Only pay for events you can participate in.

Flexible: Both parent and child can fit most of the events in.

Enjoyable: Both parent and child are involved and have bonding experiences.

Don't send your kids camping — Take them camping!

Trailmates

As children grow older and enter middle school, their schedules tend to become more crowded.  Their capabilities and interests also expand.  Our Trails Programs are designed for these older kids.  The events are more challenging both intellectually and physically.

Learn About Our History

Our history brings the organization back to the original Guides and Princess programs started by Harold Keltner and his Friday Ahtik “better known as Joe Friday” in 1926 as a way to build better father and child relationships, while also creating stronger communities.

The Algonquin Longhouse Inc. is a parent volunteer program dedicated to continuing the original intent of the program.   Since we are an all-volunteer program, this also allows us to keep overhead costs to only essentials which equates to more cost-effective programming for our members.

Our program continues to build parent / child bonds and experiences that neither will forget.  We are committed to building community relations, friendships and memories to last two lifetimes.

Past Events

Here are some highlights from past hunting seasons.

Princesses

Campouts - Dads and daughters enjoyed a weekend of bonding which includes archery, climbing wall, high ropes course, zip lines and canoeing.  The highlight of the weekend is the sacred ceremonial fire where we welcome new members and applauded the achievements of the older Princesses.

Rockford Discovery Museum Overnight - Dads and daughters spent the night exploring and engaging in the various exhibitions at the museum before watching a movie on the big screen and turning in for the night.

Daddy Daughter Dance – We’ve been to banquet halls, full hotels or boarded a boat downtown for a dinner and a cruise.  Dads and daughters put on their suits and dresses and dance the night away.

Sox Game - Dads and Daughters enjoy the full experience.  Tailgating before the game (food provided by the Federation), an on the field parade before the game and a few lucky Princesses meet and great the players right before the first inning!!

Charity Events –Dads and daughters work together to help the less people in need in the word.  A great way to help teach our kids how fortunate they are through hands on events like food drives, Feed My Starving Children and Project Linus making blankets for the poor.

Guides

Campouts - Dads and Sons enjoyed a weekend of bonding which includes archery, climbing wall, high ropes course, zip lines and canoeing.  The highlight of the weekend is the sacred ceremonial fire where we welcome new members and applauded the achievements of our fellow Guides.

18-mile Canoe Trip – For some of our more adventurous in mind. We venture down the Wisconsin river on a three day summer trip including camping in tents along sandy beaches, catching some fish, swimming in the river and having a blast.

Pinewood Derby - Dads and Sons build cars to compete against others to find the champion.

Science Snoozeum at the Museum of Science and Industry - Dads and Sons spend the night exploring the various exhibits at the museum including the exploration of a submarine.

Sox Game - Dads and Sons enjoy the full experience.  Tailgating before the game (food provided by the Federation), an on the field parade before the game and a few lucky boys meet and greet the players right before the first inning!!
